Community Foodie sprung into action this week to support a community Edible Garden in Cowbridge. Foodie provided the group with bark to be used as a mulch, some soil for their raised beds and weed suppressing fabric as well as hands on support.
The Edible Garden is an project developed by Transition Cowbridge, a local community group (see www.transitioncowbridge.org).
The Edible Landscape has been designed by the group using permaculture design which is a technique that focus on sustainable growing methods. Using this design method the group has planted an array of perennial vegetables (kale, artichokes, salads), fruits (berries, cherry) and edible or medicinal herbs as well as a willow dome as a sensory feature.
Foodie also put the group in touch with Waitrose in Cowbridge who offered hands on support to the group via their community volunteer scheme www.waitrose.com/home/inspiration/community_matters/about_community_matters.
